Montréal, le 26 mai 2013 – Milos Raonic (Thornhill, ON) was the lone Canadian in action on Sunday, the first day of main draw play at the 2013 edition of Roland-Garros, taking on Belgium’s Xavier Malisse.
Raonic enjoyed a great start to the match, completely dominating his opponent in the first two sets. Malisse offered more resistance in the third and fourth sets, but Raonic managed to come away with a 6-2, 6-1, 4-6, 6-4 win to reach the second round. Raonic had a good day on serve, hitting 16 aces and maintaining a first serve percentage of 73 percent. He also hit 61 winners in the nearly two hour contest. The 22-year-old Canadian, who was eliminated in the third round last year, awaits the winner of the match between Steve Darcis of Belgium and France’s Michael Llodra in round two.
Eugenie Bouchard (Westmount, QC), Jesse Levine (Ottawa, ON), and Vasek Pospisil (Vancouver, BC) will begin their French Open campaigns on Tuesday.
