Singles – Quarterfinal: Jamie Hampton def. (2) Roberta Vinci 5-7 6-3 7-5

This would have been a spectacular match — had it happened the day before, on schedule. As it was, they spent two and a half hours out there, and the winner still has to play two matches tomorrow, and then get to Paris! Roberta Vinci may be glad she’s out of it. But she loses her chance to rise above #15.

Singles – Quarterfinal: Kaia Kanepi def. (7) Varvara Lepchenko 6-3 4-6 7-6(7-4)

What a horrible result for both players, considering that it was supposed to be only the first match of the day! It took two and a half hours. But Kaia Kanepi is almost unbeatable at this time of year. She has defended her points and should stay Top Forty. At least Varvara Lepchenko did well enough to hit the Top 25.

They ended up delaying the semifinals, which will be played on Saturday. And then the final, of course.

Doubles – Quarterfinal: (1) Mirza/Zheng def. Dekmeijere/Kalashnikova 6-2 6-3

Doubles – Semifinal: Dabrowski/Peer def. (1) Mirza/Zheng 6-4 5-7 10-7

Doubles – Semifinal: (2) Groenefeld/Peschke def. (4) Govortsova/Rosolska 6-4 6-3

Strasbourg

Singles – Quarterfinal: Flavia Pennetta def. Misaki Doi 7-5 6-3

This seems to be Big Comeback Week, with injured Flavia Pennetta and injured Lucie Hradecka both in the semifinals.

Singles – Quarterfinal: Lucie Hradecka def. Johanna Larsson 7-5 6-3

Hradecka and Pennetta even made it to the semis by the same score. So they should be about equally rested….

Singles – Semifinal: (3) Alize Cornet def. Eugenie Bouchard 7-5 6-7(5-7) 6-3

Alize Cornet defends her points and keeps herself close to the Top Thirty, and she will be the top player in the final by far, but you have to wonder what this cost her….

Singles – Semifinal: Lucie Hradecka def. Flavia Pennetta 1-6 6-3 6-1

This went astonishingly quickly. About than an hour and a half. We haven’t heard what was wrong with Flavia Pennetta, but obviously there was something.

Doubles – Quarterfinal: (3) Black/Erakovic def. Linette/Piter 6-3 6-4

Doubles – Quarterfinal: (4) Date-Krumm/Scheepers def. McHale/Moulton-Levy 6-2 1-6 12-10

Doubles – Semifinal: Date-Krumm/Scheepers def. (2) Grandin/Uhlirova 6-1 6-3

Doubles – Semifinal: (3) Black/Erakovic def. Barrois/Buryachok 5-7 6-0 11-9

Interesting that the two teams which had to play two matches both won both!
