Singles – Third Round: (1) Serena Williams def. (14) Dominika Cibulkova 6-0 6-1

It looks safe to say Serena Williams will be #1 at least until Wimbledon. She costs Dominika Cibulkova the chance to clinch her #16 seed at Roland Garros.

Singles – Third Round: (2) Maria Sharapova def. (16) Sloane Stephens 6-2 6-1

Despite this blowout, it looks as if Sloane Stephens is finally coming back to life. But she won’t rise above #17 and might fall.

Singles – Third Round: (3) Victoria Azarenka def. Ayumi Morita 6-1 2-0, retired

There were two retirements on Thursday, and this one perhaps the more dramatic, since it cost Ayumi Morita her faint chance at a Roland Garros seed.

Singles – Third Round: Jelena Jankovic def. (5) Na Li 7-6.(2) 7-5

This was a real marathon; it took more than two and a half hours to play two sets! But Jelena Jankovic survived to keep alive her hopes for a Top 16 Roland Garros seed. Li Na will fall from #5 to #6; Sara Errani looks likely to be #5. Jelena Jankovic is still only #18, but one more win would take her to #16.

Singles – Third Round: (7) Sara Errani def. (12) Maria Kirilenko 6-3 2-0, retired

Sara Errani didn’t really need this; with Li Na out, she was pretty sure of rising to #5. But, of course, she will likely need those points after Roland Garros. Maria Kirilenko will not rise above #12.

Singles – Third Round: (9) Samantha Stosur def. (8) Petra Kvitova 7-5 2-6 6-1

A too-familiar story, this, for Petra Kvitova. For Samantha Stosur, this means she moves back ahead of Caroline Wozniacki to take the #9 spot.

Singles – Third Round: Simona Halep def. (13) Roberta Vinci 6-4 6-2

Roberta Vinci continues to struggle; she will not rise above #15. Still, her Top 16 seed in Paris looks safe.

Singles – Third Round: Carla Suarez Navarro def. Lourdes Dominguez Lino 6-2 6-3

Carla Suarez Navarro is still only #20, and isn’t at all likely to rise above #19 this week (there is almost a 500 point gap between #18 Jankovic and #19 Pavlyuchenkova!), but she looks as if she could do a lot of damage at Roland Garros.

Doubles – Second Round: (2) Petrova/Srebotnik def. Marosi/Tatishvili 6-2 7-5

Doubles – Second Round: Hsieh/Peng def. (4) Huber/Martinez Sanchez 7-6(8-6) 6-1

Huber and Martinez Sanchez won this title together a few years back, but Martinez Sanchez can’t seem to get healthy these days. Fortunately, she didn’t have anything to defend this week — but, based on current form, she may not do much better when she does have points to defend.

Doubles – Second Round: Cibulkova/Niculescu def. Raymond/Robson 6-4 6-4

Doubles – Second Round: Jankovic/Lucic-Baroni def. (7) Groenefeld/Peschke 1-6 6-3 12-10

You wouldn’t know it by their rankings, but Jankovic/Lucic-Baroni seem to be turning into quite a solid doubles team.

Doubles – Quarterfinal: (1) Errani/Vinci def. (6) Mattek-Sands/Mirza 6-4 6-3

Doubles – Quarterfinal: Kudryavtseva/Rodionova def. Hlavackova/Martic 6-3 6-1
