Yesterday was my last day in Madrid and today I am flying to Rome!
The 3rd day of 17 hours on site and it has been an improved Madrid! It will take another few years but this tournament scream “GROWTH”! It has so much potential and it will compete in the future with the best tournaments of the world including the slams!
This year the totally resurfaced the courts not only changing the color but the entire foundation of the court from the bottom to the top layer is the exact copy of the courts in Paris! During this week the are 3 crews at work and that is the local team and assisted by groundsmen from Italy (to get assistance to make the courts as equal as in Rome) and the team from Paris (that will give all advice in best to handle the more wet conditions)
The only negative part of the Caja Magica I find is that court 3 and the 2nd court “Aranxta Sanchez Vicario” are harmed by the shade! It is as if they are indoor courts that are able to open the roof instead of an outdoor court that can put up a roof!
The players that are coming of the courts and are interviewed directly after the match have a special area just outside of the players lounge!
Yesterday somebody also send me a copy of a Japanese tennis magazine that made a big feature on coaching!
My old looks flash back
Now off to Rome where about to board!
More news from this weekend!
