American Michael Russell turned 35 on Wednesday, joining Tommy Haas and Ruben Ramirez Hidalgo as the only 35 year olds in the top 100 in singles. Ramirez Hidalgo, who has made over $2 million is his career and is still playing Challengers, told the NY Times: “It’s difficult to make money, but if you are in the Top 100, you can.” . . .

The BNP Paribas Fortis Brussels Open, which is played the week prior to Roland Garros announced 22 of its main draw entrants including four top 20 players: RadwanskaRoberta Vinci, Dominica Cibulkova and Sloane Stephens. Kirstin Flipkens is the highest ranked Belgian entered at No. 23. . .

Ivo Karlovic talked to the ATP’s Greg Sharko from a Miami hospital where he is recovering from viral meningitis.  When Sharko  asked if he needed anything, Karlovic quipped: “You could give me a 1000 points (ranking).” . . .

It does not appear that Mardy Fish has any intention of playing anymore during the clay court season and will likely attempt to return on grass at Queen’s…

Martina Navratilova has said Monica Seles would have amassed the biggest ever collection of Grand Slam singles titles in female tennis had she not been stabbed on court in Hamburg 20 years ago this week. Seles won only one more major title after being stabbed by Guenther Parche, taking her total to nine majors. Margaret Court won 24, Steffi Graf 22 and Navratilova herself 18. “We’d be talking about Monica with the most Grand Slam titles,” said Navratilova.  “She would have won so much more. This guy changed the course of tennis history, no doubt about that.”
