UCLA freshman Kyle McPhillips recorded the most lopsided victory in Ojai Pac-12 Conference Tournament individual women’s singles history as she beat Stanford freshman Krista Hardebeck, 6-1, 6-0, to win the 113th edition of the event played at Libbey Park on Sunday.
It was a big weekend for the Bruins as the men captured the Pac-12 dual-match team title on with a 4-2 win over USC on Saturday. A former UCLA Bruin captured the Women’s Open title at The Ojai as Noelle Hickey defeated former Top 40 WTA player Ashley Harkleroad of Malibu, 0-6, 6-3, 6-1 and the $1,800 first-place prize money.
Future Bruin Mackenzie McDonald, 19, from Piedmont, Calif., won the Men’s Open singles title with a 6-7 (6), 6-4, 6-1 win over former ATP player Lester Cook of Sherman Oaks. McDonald won $5,000 in prize money. In Pac-12 women’s doubles final, Kaitlyn Christian and Sabrina Santamaria downed UCLA’s Courtney Dolehide and Pamela Montez, 6-3, 6-3, to repeat the title they won last year.
In the Men’s Open doubles, the No. 4-seeded team of Cook and Zack Fleishman upended the top-seeded team of Artem Sitak and Dennis Lajola, 5-7, 6-3, 6-4.
In the CCCAA Men’s Community College Singles State Championship final, No. 1 seeded Sam Bertram of Fresno City beat Ventura’s No. 7 Vitor Mendes, 4-6, 6-1, 6-0. In the women’s state final, Santa Barbara City College’s Bruna Magalhaes beat Fullerton’s Sarah Anderson, 6-2, 7-6
