Montreal, April 28, 2013 – Daniel Nestor (Toronto, ON) and Robert Lindstedt of Sweden faced Bruno Soares of Brazil and Alexander Peya from Austria in the doubles final of the Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell on Sunday, an ATP World Tour 500 event in Spain.
It was a close match, with both teams fighting to the end. In the first set, despite Peya and Soares bringing Nestor and Lindstedt break point six times, they were able to save five breaks and break their opponent twice in three attempts. The Canadian-Swedish duo secured the opening frame 7-5.
In the second set Peya and Soares raced out to a 4-1 lead, but Nestor and Lindstedt fought back to force a tiebreak. Peya and Soares held on through the 16 point breaker and came out on top 7-6(7).
The split sets forced a match tiebreak, where the Austrian and Brazilian duo dominated from the outset to post a 5-7, 7-6(7), 10-4 victory.
Nestor is currently ranked no. 9 on the ATP World Tour Rankings. He has won the Barcelona title four times in his career and appeared in his 132nd final on Sunday.
Despite the loss, this week is a victory for Nestor, as it marks the first time since the Memphis tournament in February that he has won back-to-back matches.
