Britain’s Lawn Tennis Association is sparing no expense in the hunt for the right man to take up the Chief Executive role in succession to Roger Draper. Never a body to take the thrifty option the LTA has hired the nation’s leading executive headhunters Odgers Berndtson to co-ordinate the search.
Several leading British tennis figures such as former Davis Cup captain and successful businessman David Lloyd and Sky Sports commentator Mark Petchey have already thrown their names into the hat while Barclays ATP World Tour Finals tournament manager Chris Kermode is also thought to be interested.
The LTA will formally advertise the position next month in the national press but as David Gregson, the LTA’s new independent chairman said: “This is one of the most challenging jobs in sport, at a key moment for British tennis. We are looking for an exceptional individual to lead the organization with the ultimate objective of getting more people playing tennis, more often.”
Vicky Williams, LTA Head of Human Resources and Development, added: “The position will be advertised shortly and we will then draw up a long-list of candidates from the responses to the advertisement, as well as a closely targeted search for candidates. We anticipate that the selection and interview process will take place in the summer.”
On the Odgers Berndtson website there are testimonials from several FTSE 100 companies who are more than happy with the executives sourced through the company. The responsibility will fall to the experienced duo of Simon Cummins and Simon Hayes
Simon Cummins, Head of the Global Sports Practice at Odgers Berndtson said: “We are delighted to be working in partnership with the Lawn Tennis Association to find an outstanding Chief Executive for one of Britain’s leading sports organizations.”
