Monte Carlo
Singles – Semifinal: (3) R Nadal def. (6) J Tsonga 6-3 7-6(7-3)
Yawn. Rafael Nadal. Monte Carlo. You were expecting something else?
Singles – Semifinal: (1) N Djokovic def. F Fognini 6-2 6-1
Clearly Novak Djokovic is getting close to 100%. We are due for a rerun of last year’s Nadal versus Djokovic final. We suspect we know which way the betting will be running…. Fabio Fognini appears to be up to #24, but he is likely to lose some of that ground next week; see the Feature.
Doubles – Semifinal: (1) Bryan/Bryan def. Raonic/Tomic 6-3 6-3
Our in-our-heads calculation is that, if the Bryans win the final here, they will qualify for London. In practice, at least, if not officially.
Doubles – Semifinal: Benneteau/Zimonjic def. Marrero/Verdasco 6-4 6-3
Julien Benneteau promised to play several events with Edouard Roger-Vasselin over the next few months. He should perhaps rethink that. Based on results so far, he and Nenad Zimonjic might well have a shot at playing in London — but given that they are starting late, they will need as many events as they can get.
