Emirates Airline keeps pushing more and more into tennis. It just signed a five-year deal to sponsor the French Open, following up on its 2012 sponsorship of the US Open Series.
As part of the partnership, Emirates will benefit from significant branding of the Centre court Philippe-Chatrier as well as panels on competition courts. In addition to a private lounge for Emirates guests at the Roland-Garros Village and boxes along the courts, Emirates will also have a dedicated area to welcome the general public in RG Lab, the popular Fan Zone area.
Emirates also sponsors the Italian Open, Barcelona Open, and the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships.
It is also investing in other sports and is said to be considering a $33 million a year shirt sponsorship deal with the popular soccer club, Real Madrid.
Earlier this year, Emirates signed a five-year, multimillion-dollar deal with Formula One World, which was said to be worth over $10 million. Sheikh Ahmed bin Saied Al Maktoum, the chairman and chief executive of Emirates Airline, said at the time that Emirates would spend about $272.3 million annually in overall sponsorships.
In the financial year 2011–12, it generated revenues of around US $16.6 billion, which represented an increase of about 15% over the previous year’s revenues of 14.7 billion. Passenger numbers also increased from over 31 million to around 34 million in the same period.
Emirates flies to 132 destinations in 77 countries. It operates 200 wide-body Airbus and Boeing aircraft, and has orders for an additional 198 aircraft, worth more than US $71 billion.
