Team USA Captain Jim Courier was pleased with the way his team prepared and fought all weekend. Although disappointed, he said the matches literally came down to one or two points and unfortunately even when both doubles teams won the same amount of points, it was the Serbians who came out on top. He was also sympathetic for Sam Querrey who suffered a pectoral injury that prevented him from serving to the best of his ability in the third and fourth sets against Djokovic. Without Sam’s major weapon, Djokovic was able to control the rallies from the very beginning and seal the U.S.’s fate.
Boise, Idaho should be proud of itself for the way it was able to handle this Davis Cup tie. The Serbian team had a good time here, the crowd support was incredibly loud, and the atmosphere inside Taco Bell Arena was emotionally charged from start to finish. It was wonderful to be inside the building, listening to each country’s chants, as the players thrived off the built up energy. Simply stupendous.
This Davis Cup tie will go down in the history books as one of the closest matches in history and for all the drama associated with each and every day of competition. Captain Courier and team USA will look to build off their recent form and are hopeful that each man involved in these Davis Cup weeks will continue to improve and get better as a direct result of the pressure.
