Montreal, April 5, 2013 – Eugenie Bouchard’s (Westmount, QC) run at the Family Circle Cup in Charleston, South Carolina was ended on Friday by a former World No. 1.
Playing the first WTA Premier quarter-final of her young career, Bouchard was defeated 6-2, 6-1 by Serbia’s Jelena Jankovic in 63 minutes. The 19-year-old played five matches to reach the final eight after qualifying to get into the main draw.
Despite the loss, Bouchard will collect 132 ranking points thanks to her impressive run which will allow her to crack the Top 100 when the new WTA rankings are released on Monday. She will also earn direct entry into the main draw at the French Open which will be her first Grand Slam main draw appearance.
“I am happy I was able to come here (to Charleston) and accomplish those goals,” said Bouchard reflecting on her week. “I know I can play at this level. Now I have to do it consistently week in and week out. I am going to go home, rest up and get back to practice next week to work on getting better.”
