Adidas has its stable of players that it trains and Nike outfits more than a few too, but Porsche Team Germany is also putting money behind a group of top German women that includes No. 6 Angelique Kerber and three other top 40 players in Sabine Lisicki, Julia Goerges and Mona Barthel. Former top 10 player Andrea Petkovic is also in the fold.
All those women will play the 36th Porsche Tennis Grand Prix April 20 to 28 in Stuttgart. They will join defending champion Maria Sharapova, Sara Errani, Na Li, Petra Kvitova, Samantha Stosur and Caroline Wozniacki.
The company also supports a group of up and comers called the Porsche Talent Team Germany including Annika Beck, who last year won the girls’ title at the French Open; Dinah Pfizenmaier, who qualified for the main draw at the French Open; and Antonia Lottner who reached the girls’ semifinals of Roland Garros and the US Open.
The Porsche Arena will not only host top WTA players during the week, but will host the Berenberg Bank Classic between legends Stefan Edberg and Goran Ivanisevic on April 22.
The tournament will feature a lot of off-court activities and entertainment in the Sport and Lifestyle Village, which will also be the venue for the first Wilson Porsche Mini Tennis Grand Prix for children.
