Miami

Singles – Quarterfinal: (3) D Ferrer def. J Melzer 4-6 6-3 6-0

Slow starts seem to be a bit of a David Ferrer “thing,” but so does overcoming them. And he’s now the top seed in what was Novak Djokovic’s half of the draw. And he is the first player to make the semifinal here. Could he, just possibly, have another Masters title in his future? Even if he doesn’t, his lead over Rafael Nadal in the contest for #4 is up to almost 500 points. It appears Jurgen Melzer will be #36.

Doubles – Quarterfinal: (2) M Lopez/Granollers def. Cilic/Dlouhy 6-1 7-5

This continues to look like Lopez and Granollers’s event to win.

Doubles – Quarterfinal: (5) Qureshi/Rojer def. Almagro/Marach 7-6(7-5) 6-4

It was the end of an era at Crandon Park for the Miami Open last year. From the Lipton, to the Nasdaq 100, to the Sony Ericsson, to the Sony, to the Miami Open presented by Itau, Key Biscayne saw it all.
