Maria Sharapova didn’t get to be a global brand and the top earner in women’s sport by letting a marketing opportunity go by unused. That’s why the Russian took time out of her training for the Miami Masters to make a store appearance promoting her new Sugarpova candy line in the south Florida area.
The launch was held at upscale Miami retailer IT’SUGAR. Sharapova used the opportunity to introduce three new flavors of the calorie-stuffed sweet.
Officials say the candy line which was only introduced last summer, is now sold in more than 120 locations in the US and now comprises a dozen flavors from a mix of gummy variations, gumballs and soft chews.
The premium brand with the player’s official stamp of approval is hoping to make a mark in the luxury candy market. Sharapova has been doing her bit to stir up interest in the local launch, tweeting: “Miami here I come!” and “Can’t wait to see all my fans at my Sugarpova launch Tuesday 6 pm at the IT’SUGAR store in Sunset Place.”
