As she heads into what could be considered her home Miami Masters, Venus Williams seems to have accepted the fact that her health will never be at 100 per cent. Though she lives with the autoimmune disease Sjorden’s Syndrome, the former No. 1 is still convinced that she can play good tennis at age 32.
“I’m always in recovery, because unfortunately my illness will not go away,” she said. “I have to recover every day. In my dreams, there would be the day when it left, but it will not happen.
“So I’ll keep working and doing my best. I just want to feel good. Even if I’m not feeling well, I’ll give 100 per cent of myself on court. I do not want to complain about it. But I’m happy. I want to continue with my life, winning matches, return to the Top 10. I have a lot of work and challenges in my life.”
Williams and her younger sister Serena are playing in Miami after skipping the Indian Wells Masters, which they have done for more than a decade after a clash with organizers in the early 2000s over alleged racism in the crowd during one of Serena’s matches.
