To kick off World Tennis Day action today, legend John McEnroe will renew his rivalry again Ivan Lendl, while good friends Caroline Wozniacki and Agnieszka Radwanska will also face off.
In the inaugural World Tennis Day exhibition matches at the AsiaWorld-Arena, McEnroe and Lendl will play an eight-game pro-set.
“I have always enjoyed playing in Hong Kong. It is a place with a lot of good memories including one of my first ever wins on the pro tour,” said Lendl. “I will look forward to playing John in the BNP Paribas Showdown which has been a great event in New York and I am sure will be just as popular in Hong Kong.”
World No. 4 Radwanska replaced the injured Li Na at the exhibition and while former No. 1 Wozniacki leads their head-to-head 5-4, Radwanska won the last time they faced off a few weeks ago in Doha.
“Caroline and I are great friends but also long-standing rivals, so I expect a hard fought contest,” said Radwanska.
The Hong Kong Tennis Association will also host clinics to introduce kids to the sport. The clinics are part of the International Tennis Federation’s worldwide promotion of Tennis10s, a version of the sport tailored to suit the youngest players with smaller racquets, lighter balls and altered scoring.
