It’s finally looking like a comeback to the ATP for Mardy Fish, who has played only occasionally – and not during the past six months – after his heart-scare problems began a year ago. Now the former top 10 player now ranked 32, has said he expects to return to the court at the Indian Wells Masters, to be followed by his home event in Miami.
The 31-year-old had dropped hints on his return in recent days on Twitter and finally confirmed the big day: “For those of you wondering when I’m going to play again… Indian Wells will be my first one back. Thanks for all the love.”
Fish has been suffering through the uncertainly of an occasional irregular heartbeat which first began to bother him in early 2012. He was checked out by doctors and underwent a procedure last May designed to stabilize the worry.,
But his playing schedule remained erratic, with appearances through last summer which abruptly ended at the Open when he failed to front up for a match with Roger Federer in on doctor’s orders. He has not played since. Fish will test himself early next week when he plays Novak Djokovic in an LA exhibition with the Serb No. 1 flying in from Dubai.
