Kuala Lumpur

Singles – First Round: (2) Su-Wei Hsieh def. Kurumi Nara 6-7(5-7) 6-3 6-4

Just what Hsieh Su-Wei didn’t want on a day when she still had a second match to play, but it proved to be…

Singles – Second Round: (2) Su-Wei Hsieh def. Shuai Zhang 6-2 6-2

…an impressive day for Hsieh. Unfortunately, because she is defending champion’s points, she is still only about #35 in safe points.

Singles – Second Round: (3/W) Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova def. Akgul Amanmuradova 6-3 6-3

One more win might get Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova into the Top 25.

Singles – Second Round: (4) Ayumi Morita def. Nudnida Luangnam 6-3 6-1

Ayumi Morita defends her points, which should keep her above #60.

Singles – Second Round: Karolina Pliskova def. (5) Misaki Doi 6-4 7-6(9-7)

This ought to take Karolina Pliskova to around #120.

Singles – Second Round: Luksika Kumkhum def. (7) Eleni Daniilidou 6-2 6-4

Luksika Kumkhum is up to around #120 also. At the rate she’s going, she’ll be Top Hundred by summer.

Singles – Second Round: Ashleigh Barty def. Zarina Diyas 7-6(7-3) 6-4

Ashleigh Barty has points to defend, so she moves only slightly, and she faces Pavlyuchenkova next.

Singles – Second Round: Bethanie Mattek-Sands def. Ying-Ying Duan 6-1 6-4

Bethanie Mattek-Sands is now just one win away from moving back above #150.

Singles – Second Round: Patricia Mayr-Achleitner def. Qiang Wang 6-3 6-2

Hard to believe Qiang Wang just beat Caroline Wozniacki….

Doubles – First Round: (1) Husarova/Zhang def. C Chan/Lertcheewakarn 2-6 6-0 10-7

Doubles – First Round: (4) Fujiwara/S Zheng def. Chua/Yang 7-5 3-6 10-4

Doubles – Quarterfinal: (2) Aoyama/Chang def. Amanmuradova/Ar. Rodinova 3-6 7-6(7-4) 13-11

Doubles – Quarterfinal: Pliskova/Pliskova def. (3) Buryachok/H Chan 6-3 3-6 12-10

Florianopolis

Singles – Quarterfinal: (1) Venus Williams def. (5) Magdalena Rybarikova 6-4 6-0

Venus Williams started off slowly, but wow did she come to life after that! One more win and she rises from #20 to #19

Singles – Quarterfinal: (7) Kristina Mladenovic def. Melinda Czink 6-4 6-3

One more win and Kristina Mladenovic is Top Fifty. And she remains the only seed in the bottom half.

Singles – Quarterfinal: Monica Niculescu def. Timea Babos 6-3 6-2

Niculescu faces Mladenovic next. And although she is ranked lower, she has the better career results.

Singles – Quarterfinal: Olga Puchkova def. Jana Cepelova 6-1 6-1

Olga Puchkova is now up to around #90. Far from her career high, but she’s doing better than she has in years.

Doubles – Semifinal: (1) Medina Garrigues/Shvedova def. (3) Babos/Date-Krumm 6-3 4-6 10-5

Doubles – Semifinal: Keothavong/Savinykh def. Barrois/Malek 6-4 1-6 10-6

Acapulco

Wednesday:

Singles – Second Round: (1) Sara Errani def. Eugenie Bouchard 7-6(7-4) 6-2

This is all very well for Sara Errani, but she can’t earn any points here and will remain at #8. Guaranteed.

Singles – Second Round: (2) Carla Suarez Navarro def. Stephanie Foretz Gacon 6-1 6-2

This will gain Carla Suarez Navarro a spot or two; one more win would clinch her Top 25 spot.

Singles – Second Round: (3) Alize Cornet def. Estrella Cabeza Candela 6-4 6-4

Not many points yet for Alize Cornet, but she appears to be up to at least #35.

Singles – Second Round: Silvia Soler-Espinosa def. (4) Irina-Camelia Begu 6-1 2-1, retired

Irina-Camelia Begu was defending semifinalist points, so she can bid the Top Fifty goodbye.

Singles – Second Round: (5) Kiki Bertens def. Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez 6-1 6-2

Kiki Bertens will probably move above #45.

Singles – Second Round: (6/WC) Francesca Schiavone def. Sesil Karatantcheva 6-3 6-4

This just might put Francesca Schiavone back in the Top Fifty.

Singles – Second Round: (7) Lourdes Dominguez Lino def. Maria-Teresa Torro-Flor 6-4 3-0, retired

One more win might put Lourdes Dominguez Lino in the Top Fifty.

Singles – Second Round: Karin Knapp def. (8) Romina Oprandi 6-4 7-6(7-2)

Romina Oprandi will stay in the #60 range, however.

Doubles – First Round: Falconi/Tomljanovic def. (1) Minella/Moulton-Levy .6-2 7-5

Doubles – First Round: Castano/Duque-Marino def. (3) Ferrer Suarez/Martinez Sanchez 7-5 6-7(4-7) 10-5

Doubles – First Round: Rodriguez/Zacarias def. Hermoso/Sanchez 6-3 6-2

Thursday (So Far):

Singles – Quarterfinal: (2) Carla Suarez Navarro def. (6) Francesca Schiavone (WC) 6-7(5-7) 6-4 6-2

This three hour contest didn’t exactly advance the schedule much. Francesca Schiavone at least earned enough points to reach the Top Fifty. But it’s Carla Suarez Navarro who is making the noteworthy move. #28 coming in, she will probably rise to #22.
