Dubai
Singles – Semifinal: (5) Sara Errani def. Roberta Vinci 6-3 6-3
Sara Errani has had her leg strapped up, but she knows very well how to deal with her doubles partner. That means Roberta Vinci will not be hitting the Top Fifteen.
Singles – Semifinal: (6) Petra Kvitova def. (8) Caroline Wozniacki 6-3 6-4
Always, these days, we are left with the question of whether Petra Kvitova can sustain her momentum. She certainly seems to be doing so this time! She won’t move in the rankings, though. Neither will Caroline Wozniacki. We’re going to end up with exactly the same Top Ten as we had coming in.
Doubles – Semifinal: (2) Petrova/Srebotnik def. (4) Llagostera Vives/Zheng 6-1 6-0
Doubles – Semifinal: Mattek-Sands/Mirza def. Black/Rodionova 6-2 7-5
Lots of nostalgia about this match featuring so many veterans! Cara Black will probably have to settle for a ranking around #85 for the time being — but, barring injury, she is sure to go higher in the near future.
Memphis
Singles – Semifinal: (3) Sabine Lisicki def. (7) Magdalena Rybarikova 7-5 7-5
Sabine Lisicki is now around #35. Magdalena Rybarikova is a little below the Top Fifty.
Singles – Semifinal: Marina Erakovic def. Stefanie Voegele 6-2 6-4
Marina Erakovic’s career has been a matter of big steps forward and big setbacks. This week — won’t see either one. She was defending 200 points, so this merely keeps her right where she came in.
Doubles – Semifinal: (2) Mladenovic/Voskoboeva def. Lee-Waters/Pegula 6-3 6-3
Bogota
Singles – Quarterfinal: (1) Jelena Jankovic def. Alexandra Cadantu 6-2 6-1
One more win would let Jelena Jankovic stay in place, rankings-wise. As it is, she appears to have earned enough to stay Top 25.
Singles – Quarterfinal: Karin Knapp def. Lara Arruabarrena-Vecino 6-3 6-3
Karin Knapp is up to around #110. If she can beat Jankovic, she’ll be Top Hundred.
Singles – Quarterfinal: Paula Ormaechea def. Maria-Teresa Torro-Flor 6-1 7-5
Paula Ormaechea is one of those sneaky-good clay players. As she is showing. Now, of course, we’ll see how good her nerves are as she deals with late round pressure.
Singles – Quarterfinal: Teliana Pereira def. Mandy Minella 6-1 6-2
We’re going to have to see Teliana Pereira on hardcourts before we start making expansive claims about her, but this is definitely intriguing. She will rise from #156 to around #120.
Doubles – Semifinal: (2) Babos/Minella def. (WC) Jankovic/Krunic 6-3 6-2
At this point, Jelena Jankovic is probably happy to be saving her energy for the singles.
