Roger Federer has arrived “home” in Dubai after his charity foundation visit to South Africa this week, with the Swiss set to bid for a fifth title next week on court at the Aviation club. Not far behind will be world No. 1 Novak Djokovic, who will be making his first ATP appearance since winning the Australian Open almost a month ago.
Federer missed a chance last week on court in Rotterdam, when he lost in the quarter-finals to Julien Benneteau after winning the title in 2012. The 31-year-old is also defending the trophy in Dubai, where he spends training week.
Djokovic has won Dubai three times, 2009-11 before Federer broke that string of success a year ago.
“Dubai is always a great tournament. A lot of the players have the same opinion as me,” Djokovic told local media in the run-up.
“We feel very comfortable in this tournament. The site is great and the weather of course is fantastic and the organizers make us feel really good. I really look forward to coming back. You always have very good and intensive matches here and the attendance is great.”
