Gaël Monfils participates in 40th ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament
Gaël Monfils and Grega Zemlja have been added to the participants of the ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament. They will replace Radek Stepanek and Philipp Kohlschreiber, who are unable to participate due to injuries. The 40th edition of the ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament starts Monday February 11th in Ahoy Rotterdam.
Gaël Monfils was unable to play for a couple of months in 2012 due to a knee injury, leading to a year-end rankout of the top-20 for the first time since 2007. In 2011 the French player reached his highest ranking (seventh) on the ATP World Tour. In 2009, 2010 and 2011 he yearly won a tournament, always indoor and on hard-court.
Richard Krajicek on Gaël Monfils’ participation: “He has proven his excellent skills on our surface in the past. On top of that he has proven he is on the way back with his semifinal in Auckland and his great match against Simon during the Australian Open. I am really happy that he has accepted the wildcard for Rotterdam. He is a very popular player with the fans and someone who always brings something extra.”
Grega Zemlja will have his first appearance in Ahoy Rotterdam. Last year he entered the top-100 for the first time and currently he is ranked 60th on the ATP Ranking. Together with Robin Haase, who originally was using a wildcard, he moved into the acceptance list due to the fact that Radek Stepanek and Philipp Kohlschreiber will not be present.
Gaël Monfils in Rotterdam
Gaël Monfils will participate for a fourth time in Rotterdam. In 2007 he lost in the first round, but in 2009 he reached the semifinals (in which he lost to Rafael Nadal). In 2010 he reached the quarterfinals.
