Li Na has admitted she will take some days to recover from the physical and emotional wounds from her Australian Open final defeat by Victoria Azarenka. The controversial match was interrupted by holiday fireworks and also marred as the Chinese No. 1 was twice injured – the second time when she fell and hit her head on the court.

Li saw her doctors in Germany upon her return to Europe; she also celebrated a bittersweet wedding anniversary the day after her loss with husband Jiang Shan, once her coach but now demoted to the role of interested spectator and family member.

Li said her injured ankle was still sore: “I need time to recover,” said a player with 61 matches in her legs since the start of January.

Li said she is preparing for the Dubai event later this month to be followed by a March 4 World Tennis Day exhibition in Hong Kong against Caroline Wozniacki. I’m really looking forward to go back to Hong Kong again,” said the 30 year-old. “If they have more tournaments in Asia, it’s much easier for us, less traveling.”

She added: “I never give up so I believe I can keep this tennis level for a couple of years,” said the 30-year-old.
