It may be because he’s been a consistent elite winner for almost a decade, but at 31, Roger Federer says he still thrives on the traveling caravan which is the worldwide tennis circuit.

The Swiss second seed is expressing his particular joy by reaching a tenth straight semi- final at the Australian Open, where he will face Andy Murray on Friday.

Though he has the help of two nannies and a wife as the couple and their twin daughters travel in the realm of private jets and five-star hotel suites, the novelty of the ambience has yet to wear off on Federer.

“I enjoy everything about the traveling and the tour and the matches and the rivalries and all that stuff and the records, you name it,” said the 17-time grand Slam champion, perhaps the best to ever play the sport.

“I see almost basically positives really. I really enjoy it. Back in the day when I was trying to get a feel for how the tour was working, things were much more complicated, now it’s pretty straightforward.

“It’s important to mix it up sometimes, change it up with who you practice with, where you do that at the tennis sometimes, how can you make it fun.

“That’s why I always love it when friends and family come around. Obviously I have my kids which totally changed my life in the last three years. It’s really enjoyable. It’s really nice. So I like it.”
