Russian Maria Kirilenko has escaped with a warning after illegally wearing a visor with two sponsor logos during her early rounds at the Australian Open.
The photogenic Russian was caught out when officials sighted two logos (Stella McCartney and adidas) on her visor. She was able to change it for a headband with only one marque and play on. Kirilenko plays in McCartney dresses, a showcase for Sir Paul’s daughter in sport.
Kirilenko was puzzled as she had played in the visor for a few matches. “They said I couldn’t wear that anymore, just on the practice court.
“There were two signs – adidas and Stella McCartney – and they said I’m not allowed to wear two brands on the same visor. “I don’t know (why), but I played two matches with that (already) and nobody tell me until today.
“It’s good that I had a bandana in my bag, so I was fine to play.”
