Each week, Daily Tennis will look at the biggest movers of the week, looking at how they did what they did.

Biggest Upward Mover — Most Places Moved (Top 100)

Leader: Elena Vesnina — Moved 21 places, from #68 to #47.

Vesnina broke a string of six losses in finals to win Hobart, her first-ever singles title.

Runner-Up: Kimiko Date-Krumm — Moved 12 places, from #112 to #100

Date-Krumm qualified for Sydney and made the second round.

Biggest Percentage Mover — Cut Ranking By Highest Percent (Top 100)

Leader: Vesnina, cut ranking 31%

Runner-Up: Kirsten Flipkens, moved 8 places, 16%, from #51 to #43.

Flipkens made the Hobart semifinal to continue her steady year-long climb.

Biggest Loser — Most Places Lost (Top 100)

Loser: Shahar Peer — Dropped 17 places, from #73 to #90

Last year, Peer was a semifinalist at Hobart. She has done almost nothing since.

Biggest Percentage Loser — Worst Percentage Increase in Ranking (Top 100)

Loser: Peer, ranking increased 23%.

Ranking Notes

It was a mostly quiet week. Note that not one player fell by as much as 25%. Only three fell by as much as 10%: Peer (23%), Yanina Wickmayer (20%, to #24), and Mona Barthel (19%, to #38). The upward moves were also small. Vesnina rose 31%, but #2 Flipkens rose a bit less than 16%. #3 mover Sloane Stephens rose only 14% (to #25), and #4 Svetlana Kuznetsova gained not quite 12% (to #75). Other than Vesnina’s, the most impressive move may have been by Sydney quarterfinalist Madison Keys, who gained 23% — but is still only #105. She’s likely to be Top Hundred soon, however.

Our Personal Picks for “Best Mover of the Week”

These are subjective picks!

Vesnina, obviously. She had the biggest move and won her first title.
