Every Grand Slam creates its own unique energy and the Australian Open has intensified theirs with more money, upgrades, and expansions. It is still the Happy Slam, boasting a party atmosphere and laid back vibe. But with more fans attending and the pressure on players’ performance as high as ever, it must be quite surreal to be on the grounds the night before play begins. Even now, I anxiously scour live-stream websites and “ghost-click” on live camera feeds of matches I want to watch that haven’t even started yet.. The anticipation mounts and like a whirlwind, the matches and the action will be upon us tennis fans for two weeks straight with little let up.
So take heed and cheers to the qualifiers who were given a day break after 3 tough rounds of grueling matches and are awarded a chance to change their lives. To all the grounds crews, event staff, and media personnel who stay later than everyone to make sure the event runs smoothly, good luck and don’t forget you are the ones that make the event possible. With the presence (and insanity) of all the companies, sponsors, and entourages involved, it’s quite amazing that the players can even play tennis at all. The silence of the grounds must be a welcomed sound.. Let’s hope that every player gets a good night’s rest and can play to the best of their abilities in the coming weeks because the world will be watching!
