Sydney
Singles – Quarterfinal: (1) Agnieszka Radwanska def. Roberta Vinci 6-4 7-5
Agnieszka Radwanska wins her seventh straight match — and guarantees that she will go into the Australian Open having played at least eight matches in two weeks. And she still hasn’t added any points this week. Roberta Vinci does add points, but she won’t be rising.
Singles – Quarterfinal: (2) Angelique Kerber def. Svetlana Kuznetsova 6-3 7-5
Despite the loss, it’s pretty clear that Svetlana Kuznetsova is back. This will be the first time in half a year and more that she has moved up the rankings.
Singles – Quarterfinal: Dominika Cibulkova def. (3) Sara Errani 6-2 6-1
Dominika Cibulkova is on a very hot streak all of a sudden. Maybe it’s because she’s so small and the conditions are so hot: She can shed heat better than anyone. It appears Cibulkova will rise to #14. Errani had to wait for Li Na’s match to know whether she would be #6 or #7.
Singles – Quarterfinal: (4) Na Li def. Madison Keys 4-6 7-6.(2) 6-2
Somehow, Li Na keeps winning. Our rough cut is that Madison Keys won’t quite make the Top Hundred. Li earns enough points that she should keep her #6 ranking; Sara Errani will stay #7.
Doubles – Quarterfinal: (1) Errani/Vinci def. Groenefeld/Peschke 7-5 2-6 18-16
Doubles – Quarterfinal: (2) Hlavackova/Hradecka def. Panova/Voskoboeva 6-2 6-4
Doubles – Quarterfinal: Petrova/Srebotnik def. (4) Huber/Mirza 6-2 7-5
Hobart
Singles – Second Round: Tsvetana Pironkova def. (3) Klara Zakopalova 3-6 6-4 6-2
The slaughter of seeds continues. The top seven seeds here are all gone. We’d guess Klara Zakopalova will rise to #22, but that is as high as she can go.
Singles – Second Round: Jarmila Gajdosova def. Olga Govortsova 6-3 6-1
Jarmila Gajdosova’s great comeback continues. It will be interesting to see if she can keep this up outside Australia.
Singles – Second Round: Kirsten Flipkens def. Bojana Jovanovski 6-3 6-2
This will do it: Kirsten Flipkens is Top Fifty. Possibly has high as #45.
Singles – Second Round: Monica Niculescu def. Peng Shuai 3-6 6-4 6-4
Monica Niculescu should also hit the Top Fifty. She leaves Peng Shuai a little below #30.
Doubles – Quarterfinal: Barty/Bobusic def. (3) Bratchikova/Husarova 7-5 7-5
Doubles – Quarterfinal: Babos/Minella def. Begu/Halep 7-6(7-1) 6-0
