An intern’s story by Marlene Salazar
Nature
When I arrived at Ventura Beach it was cold, windy, and humid. The sky was blue as well as the ocean. I did not feel anything in the first hour or so, I was still dizzy from the trip. After a while my sister and I decided to go out for a walk on the beach. On our way down to the beach we had to go down a bridge and past a little road. Their was the sweetest smell of flowers and the aroma was telling me to keep going, like the aroma had hands of its own and was taking me to the real beauty. Watching the beautiful flowers closely they seemed to be dancing with the melody of the wave and chirping of the birds. I had never seen anything like it. When I was standing close to the waves I felt I was in my own world. I had no worries, no hurries whatsoever. I could tell the ocean was upset. It was roaring and clashing into the rocks. I understood why, because people only visit it once in a blue moon. That was the reason why it was always cold and lonely. People where there for five minutes then left. They didn’t even stay to see the real beauty, its “inner music”. I listened it was calm, relaxing music to my ears, nothing like cars, television, or even the real music in the radio. This was much more powerful, there are nothing more beautiful than nature’s music. After a long while we decided to leave to our campsite I didn’t want to leave it alone like always but I had to. I could tell it got angry and sad because it was trying to reach me and keep me from leaving but I had to, I could tell it got angry and sad because it was roaring again when it hit the rocks and the waves got bigger like if it was trying to reach me and keep me from leaving but it was dark and I couldn’t stay any longer. The night I believe was the best, I looked up and saw millions of shiny diamonds in the black sheet over me. It was stunningly gorgeous, at my house when I look up all I see is airplanes and a pale gray sky. When I saw the diamonds I felt I was up in the highest mountain in the world and I could easily reach up and get one. I was really amazed when I saw the big dipper. I had only seen it just on the television and in pictures. It is a blessing that we are illuminated by the biggest pearl I had ever seen. It is huge and bright, but this pearl is priceless no bill on earth could buy this precious pearl. Nature’s treasures are priceless and very delicate and if they are never taken care of in time nobody will feel what I felt, nobody will see the flowers dancing to the melody of the waves. That is why I enjoy nature and try to take care of it. If the treasure is protected nothing will happen to it. Next time you are outdoors and see the flowers or the sky and if you’re lucky the ocean take a closer look, pay close attention attention for they shall cure all your worries and turn your frown upside down.
This is not about tennis, this is not well written, but it was written from the heart, by our favorite intern that passed away two years ago. Her name was Marlene Salazar, she was beautiful, she kind, she thoughtful, she was hard working. This was a high school assignment that was written for her English class. We are posting this in her memory. She was 18 years old when she passed away. She saw beauty in everything even one quiet night out of a busy city.
We wanted to publish Marlene because she meant a lot to us… But the bottom line is don’t drink and drive… Marlene lost her life because of a drunken driver.
