Kim Clijsters has extended her long-winded long goodbye from tennis with an exhibition this week in the Belgian diamond-dealing port city of Antwerp as she plays for fun against Venus Williams.
In her December goodbye, Clijsters will also teaming doubles with former rival Amelie Mauresmo, who proceeded her in retirement by three years. Also on the bill will be Clijsters’ “little buddy” Kirsten Flipkens, the world No. 54 who lived most of her career in the shadow of Clijsters.
Mauresmo has a solid history in Antwerp as the only player to win the former Diamond Games event three times, a feat which allowed her to keep a pricey diamond-encrusted racquet. Up to 2,0000 tickets will available for the Clijsters tennis testimonial.
But the December 12 date at the Antwerp Sportpaleis may not even be the last hurrah for former No. 1 Clijsters, who officially”ended her career at the US Open three months ago.
Clijsters tweeted recently that she is preparing for a January exhibition and is enjoying family life at home.
