Player News
No major news at this time. There really isn’t anything going on in the tennis world, either; the only tournaments are $10K events. We glanced at the draws; there wasn’t anyone you’re likely to know about. At the Antalya tournament, for instance, the only player we could ever recall playing a WTA match was Sweden’s Ellen Allgurin, and she hasn’t played outside Sweden. Plus she lost in the semifinal.
We don’t have all of this week’s results yet, but China’s Wang Qiang won the Bangkok $10K. Chanel Simmonds took the title at the $10K in Potchefstroom, South Africa. The winner at the Jakarta event was Lu Jia-Jing, meaning that two of the week’s four titles went to Chinese players. (Remember, though, that they’re $10K events. They have effectively no predictive value when it comes to future WTA results.)
