Roger Federer’s list of endorsements already included iconic brand such as Credit Suisse banks, Rolex watches, Mercedes-Benz cars, Lindt chocolate, Nike sporting apparel and Wilson rackets. Now the estimated $45 million a year he earns away from the tennis court is set to be bolstered still further with the announcement the winner of a record 17 Grand Slam singles titles will become an ambassador for Moet and Chandon champagne.
No exact financial details of the agreement are available but suffice to say the deal will be lucrative as Moet and Chandon maintain they introduced champagne to the world have been brand leaders in since 1743.
Federer will take centre stage in Moet and Chandon’s upcoming advertising campaign, certain to generate lots of buzz when it is revealed in March 2013.
“It’s more than just an honor to be Moet and Chandon’s brand ambassador, it’s an invitation to be part of a very glamorous tradition,” enthused Federer. “Moet and Chandon has always been the champagne of international trendsetters and I’m proud to be part of a brand that is as dedicated to the pursuit of excellence as I have been throughout my career.”
“Roger Federer personifies the glamour of achievement, great generosity and tremendous style values that have been key to our House throughout its long history,” declared Stéphane Baschiera, President and CEO of Moet and Chandon. “As the champagne of victory and an enthusiastic supporter of major tennis tournaments around the world, we are extremely proud to welcome Roger Federer with Moet and Chandon’s hallmark hospitality.”
The image and manner in which Federer has always conducted himself through out his record breaking career appeals perfectly to the leading and most visible and most respected brands in the world. As Forbes magazine maintained: “Federer is a perfect pitchman for companies because of his long track record of success in the sport where he has won a record 16 Grand Slam titles.
“Tennis as a sport is also attractive to sponsors for several reasons. The demographics of its fans are strong thanks to high disposable incomes for tennis apparel, rackets, watches and cars. Another plus is the global nature of the sport. Lastly, the tennis season is almost year-round, keeping Federer always in the spotlight
