2012 has been another superb year for tennis. Rafael Nadal claiming a record 7th French Open, Serna Williams losing in the first round at the same event and Britain’s own Andy Murray finally winning his first Grand Slam.
As the year is drawing to a close, all eyes are on 2013 and the young talent bursting onto the scene, promising to make it a year as memorable as the last.
Here’s your guide to the men who will make their mark.
Milos Raonic
DOB- December 27, 1990-(21 years old)
Nation- Canada (born in Yugoslavia)
Ranking- 13
Milos is one of the brightest stars on the ATP circuit and 2013 promises to bring even more success for the young Montenegro born Canadian.
2012 was a great year for the Canuck, who reached the fourth round of the US Open, beating James Blake on the way and won both the SAP Open and the Aircel Chennai Open.
At 6ft 5, Raonic is a towering individual and can thank his size for his incredible serving abilities. He has hit the third most aces on the tour (509) and is the most successful at holding his own serve (78%).
Grigor Dimitrov
DOB- May 16, 1991-(21 years old)
Nation- Bulgaria
Ranking- 48
Smooth ground strokes, a forehand to die for and a knockout backhand are attributes usually associated with Swiss legend Roger Federer. But now there is a new player to follow suit, step forward Grigor Dimitrov.
Dimitrov enjoyed an emphatic junior career, winning both the 2008 Wimbledon and US Open titles respectively. He has since carried on his success onto the men’s circuit, as victories at the Apano Cup and the Bangkok Open saw his ranking climb from 309th in the world to 56th in just over a year.
Ryan Harrison
DOB- May 7, 1992 (20 years old)
Nation- USA
Ranking- 90
Over the years American tennis has enjoyed huge success, but the glory years of McEnroe, Agassi, Sampras and Connors have long gone, and with the recent retirement of former world no1 Andy Roddick, the US is in search of a new star to bring them out of the wilderness.
Ryan Harrison could well be that man. Along with established US player Mardy Fish, the Louisiana born 20 year old is causing a stir on the ATP circuit; he enjoyed an emphatic 2012, reaching the quarter finals at both the US Open and Roland Garros.
A strong doubles player, he reached the semi-final of the Davis Cup in 2012, narrowly losing out to Spain.
