There is finally some movement in the Rafael Nadal camp, with Toni Nadal advising that his nephew is due to start training again after a months-long pause to heal a set of knee injuries.
“Next week we will be back on the courts, that’s the plan,” Toni Nadal told dpa, adding that the new schedule will insure that Nadal has time off to watch Spanish Davis Cup progress at the weekend final in Prague with the Czech Republic. “We will adapt the the schedules of physio and fitness so as to be home at the time of the matches,” said Toni.
Nadal has not appeared on court since losing in the second round of Wimbledon almost five months ago. His preliminary schedule calls for a return at the well-paid post-Christmas Abu Dhabi exhibition event. There are also feelers out from the AAMI Classic at Melbourne’s Kooyong club, held prior to the January 14 start of the Australian Open.
“Things are going well, but the doctor said we had to really strengthen the tendon, and we’re doing that,” Toni Nadal said of Rafa’s knee injury progress.
