The Invacare Doubles Masters was first played in 2000 alongside the NEC Wheelchair Tennis Masters for singles players. It became a standalone event in 2003 and was held in Italy from 2003 until 2010. In 2011, the event moved to Amsterdam, Netherlands. It is the most prestigious doubles event on the NEC Wheelchair Tennis Tour which in 2012 featured over 170 events in more than 40 countries.
In the men’s event, teams compete in two round-robin groups, with the top two teams in each group reaching the semifinals. In the women’s event, there are also two round-robin groups, but the top team in each group advances to the final. In the quad event, four teams compete in one round-robin group, with the top two teams contesting the final.
