A closer look at the matchups on the fifth day of the Barclay’s ATP World Tour Finals being played at the O2 Arena in London, England:
Friday, at 12 Noon:
DOUBLES: Max Mirnyi / Daniel Nestor vs. Mahesh Bhupathi / Rohan Bopanna
With Marray and Nielsen grabbing a spot into the semis already, the winner of this one takes second and advances on to Saturday. The pick here has to go to the defending champs Mirnyi and Nestor, who has been on the winning side of four of the last five year-end events. The pair also picked up the French Open this year.
Followed by SINGLES: Novak Djokovic vs. Tomas Berdych
It’s not like Berdych hasn’t ever pulled off a win over the Djoker at a huge event, but problem is it was his only win over Serb No. 1 in 11 career meetings and took place in the semifinals at Wimbledon in 2010.
Friday, Evening Session:
DOUBLES: Robert Lindstedt / Horia Tecau vs. Jonathan Marray / Frederik Nielsen:
This is the rematch doubles fans have been waiting for as Marray / Nielsen as wild cards shocked the veterans at SW19 back in July in a five-set instant classic.
Followed by SINGLES: Andy Murray vs. Jo-Wilfried Tsonga:
Murray holds all the cards here. Win in straights and he’s into Saturday’s semis. But he could also still lose in three and make it through. That’s only if Djokovic beats Berdych. Whatever, the Scot is looking forward to his first holiday in two years. “Who knows what the scenario will be when I get on the court but I’ll just try my best to win,” the crowd favorite said. “There are no easy matches here and you need to be prepared for some tough battles.”
