Singles – Group B: (1) N Djokovic def. (3) A Murray 4-6 6-3 7-5
Novak Djokovic is going to be really, really tired, but he somehow keeps winning. He is 2-0 here, which ought to spell a semifinal spot, and of course he’s making it that much harder for Roger Federer to catch him next year. Andy Murray is down to 1-1. He still has a good shot at the semifinal, but obviously his next match is pretty close to must-win.
Singles – Group B: (5) T Berdych def. (6) J Tsonga 7-5 3-6 6-1
That, for practical purposes, marks the end for Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. He is 0-2, and he faces Murray next. Even if he beats Murray, he’ll still be 1-2. The only way he could have a chance in that case is if Novak Djokovic beats Tomas Berdych and Djokovic is 3-0 and the other three are tied at 1-2. Admittedly that’s not too improbable. But then he has to win the tiebreak with Murray and Berdych. That’s not such a fair chance.
Singles – Group B:
Doubles – Group B: (2) Marray/Nielsen def. (2) Mirnyi/Nestor 7-6(7-3) 4-6 12-10 (Match TB)
Is it possible that Marray/Nielsen can only win in southeastern England? It’s starting to look that way. Their results away from Wimbledon were so weak that they couldn’t even finish in the Top Ten in the Race, but they appear bound for the semifinal.
Doubles – Group B: (5) Bhupathi/Bopanna def. (4) Lindstedt/Tecau 6-3 5-7 10-5 (Match TB)
After a tough loss the day before, it appears Bhupathi/Bopanna have managed to adjust…. Lindstedt/Tecau are now 0-2, so they are pretty effectively out of action here. Group B is looking pretty crazy, with the #2 team in the group, Lindstedt/Tecau, 0-2, and the top team, Mirnyi/Nestor, also struggling. For that matter, the Bryans also lost their openers. It’s as if all the top teams are out of steam.
