Tommy Haas can look ahead to next season on the ATP from a solid 21st ranking position and holding a massively positive outlook after being voted ATP Comeback Player of the Year. The 34-year-old German who has fought through several major injury episodes in his career, is back at the world-class level with 2013 just around the corner.

Not even a year and a half ago, Haas ranked a distant 896 as he recovered from hip surgery. But that all changed as the former No. 2 slowly worked his way back up the table, winning the Halle grass event in 2012 (Roger Federer was the losing finalist) for the second time since 2009 and cracking the top 20 in the autumn thanks to a quarter-final at the Shanghai Masters and a final during the summer in Washington.

“Sometimes I can not even hardly believe what I have achieved this season everything.” said the player who once stood second in the world. “I won the tournament in Halle over Federer.

” Vienna (in October) marked my 500th career ATP victory and victory match Match clinched victory on the tour. And now I’m also voted Comeback Player of the Year.

“I’m absolutely delighted to receive this award because it and the hard work that I’ve done with my team is rewarded accordingly. The award is also a great motivation to prepare for the upcoming season.”

Haas made some of his biggest comeback showings at home, at ATP events in Munich , Stuttgart and Hamburg in 2012.
