Sergei Bubka Junior, the tennis playing son of the world’s greatest pole vaulter and boyfriend of WTA no.1 Victoria Azarenka, was rushed to the Georges-Pompidou Hospital in Paris and treated for multiple fractures after accidentally falling from a third story window.
Bubka, aged 25 and placed 186 on the ATP World Tour singles rankings, was initially thought to be in a life-threatening condition but the hospital later announced he was stable and out of danger.
The Ukrainian apparently found himself locked inside a bathroom of a friend’s apartment in Avenue de Camoens in the 16th arrondissement, not far from Roland Garros.
Bubka is believed to have enjoyed a night out, but in the 7am attempt to exit from the locked bathroom, he opened the window and tried to reach an adjacent window but fell.
The Georges-Pompidou Hospital was initially reluctant to release any official statement on Bubka’s condition as he was in Intensive Care but later admitted the prognosis was improving.
Bubka grew up in Monte Carlo and San Remo , and opted to pursue a tennis career after idolizing Andrei Medvedev and Marat Safin as a child.
