WTA Challenge Series Launched This Week In Taipei |

The Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) has launched its WTA Challenger event series, a select number of emerging markets, currently not able to host a WTA Premier or International tournament. They will have the unique opportunity to host a WTA Challenger event and showcase a women’s tennis product. The WTA Challenger Series will offer some of WTA’s lower ranked players (ranked outside of Top 50), who are eager to play more events and matches and whose seasons end earlier than WTA’s elite stars, an opportunity to play extra events and earn ranking points. With total prize money of US$125,000 and 160 ranking points for the winner, the WTA Challenger events will be one level above top‐tier ITF events, which offer total prize money of US$100,000 and 150 ranking points.

This week’s lead off event in Taipei, the OEC Taipei WTA Ladies Open, is hosted by the OEC Sports Marketing & Management Co., Ltd. It is being held in the 15,000‐seat Taipei Arena and has a main draw of 32 singles, 16 qualifiers and 16 doubles teams.
