Cara Black who retired last year (and finished the season with a No. 77 ranking) is giving serious thought to competing again. Married to Brett Stevens since 2006, and having had a son named Lachlan this past May, she began her comeback playing the $25,000 Traralgon event in Australia last week, and won the doubles with Arina Rodionove of Russia 2-6, 7-6, (10-8) over the Australian pair, Ashleigh Barty and Sally Peers.
Admitting that she missed playing but wants to see how difficult it will be adjusting to being a tennis-road family, dealing with son, husband, practice and competitive responsibilities, Black is going to test herself at some ITF circuit tournament this fall to see how things go.
Stevens, the “Good ‘Ol Aussie nicknamed ‘Moose,’” who was a fitness trainer for a host of tour performers, including both Byron and Wayne Black, is up to the task of playing Mr. Mom. Extremely well liked, with a whip quick sense of humor, he and his wife will be welcome additions to the tour next year if everything works out.
