It was an incredible week in Istanbul, as the Top 4 players in the world made the semifinals of the TEB BNP Paribas WTA Championships – the first time that happened at the year-ender since 1989 – and World No.3 Serena Williams was the one who came out on top, beating World No.2 Maria Sharapova to win the title in front of a record crowd, 64 63. Williams didn’t lose a set all week and won an impressive seventh WTA title of the year – she has won 48 of her last 50 matches.
Maria Kirilenko and Nadia Petrova were the last team in but the last standing in the doubles event, beating Andrea Hlavackova and Lucie Hradecka for the title, 61 64.
