Round Robin – Red Group: (3) Serena Williams def. (1) Victoria Azarenka 6-4 6-4
Not much doubt about it: Serena Williams wants to win this title. And she looks hard to stop. She is 3-0 in Round Robin action, and of course wins the Red Group. As for who is second — that’s still up in the air….
Round Robin – Red Group: (8) Li Na def. (5) Angelique Kerber 6-4 6-3
No question about who will be last in the group, though. Angelique Kerber had match points against Victoria Azarenka, but still ends up 0-3. The only consolation is that she will be the year-end #5.
Which still leaves the question of who will be second in the Red Group. Serena is 3-0, Kerber 0-3 — and Li Na and Victoria Azarenka are 1-1 and face each other next. So the winner of that will be in the semifinal.
Round Robin – White Group: (7) Sara Errani def. (9) Samantha Stosur 6-3 2-6 6-0
Based on that score, you almost wonder if we might not see another alternate replace Samantha Stosur here. Stosur’s only chance for the semifinal was to win two matches — but this should have been the easy one! And look what happened. That means that she will not rise above #9 even if she wins her next match. Sara Errani needs more than this to rise above her current #7, but at least she has a shot.
