Some of tennis’s biggest personalities have signed on for Apia International Sydney event scheduled for January 6-12, 2013.

Australia’s Bernard Tomic joins Spaniard Fernando Verdasco, American John Isner and the French pair of Richard Gasquet and Gael Monfils as confirmed starters set to challenge world No.7 Jo-Wilfried Tsonga for the prestigious title this January.

Tomic will spearhead Aussie men’s chances at the Apia International Sydney in what will be his second visit to the premier and final lead-up tournament for the year’s first Grand Slam, the Australian Open.

The talented 20-year-old joins fellow Australian star Samantha Stosur in Sydney ensuring that Australia’s No.1 ranked male and female players will contend for the titles on offer this January.

One of the glamour players of the men’s tour, Fernando Verdasco returns for his fifth shot at the Sydney title but it will be his first visit since 2008. The 28-year-old Spaniard packs a punch with his left-handed game that has seen him win five ATP World Tour singles titles and achieve a career-high No.7 ranking in 2009.

Adding to the star power is world No.11 John Isner. The world’s best server makes his third appearance in Sydney after enjoying the best year of his career in 2012. The American No.1 won titles at Winston-Salem and Newport and made the finals in Indian Wells and Houston.

World No.13 Richard Gasquet will again begin the season at the Apia International Sydney as he has done every year since 2004. The 2010 singles finalist and former doubles champion, with partner Tsonga, has been at the top of his game recently, winning the Bangkok title and reaching the last 16 at all four majors.
