Bernard Tomic Is Being Advised To Find A Good Coach

Bernard Tomic, suffering a horrendous end to the competitive year after another morale kicking humiliation at the Swiss Indoors event at Basel , has been told he quickly needs to address his coaching situation. And the man the Australian youngster has been advised to appoint by highly regarded observer Darren Cahill is Lleyton Hewitt’s former coach Roger Rasheed.

Tomic, who turned 20 years old on Sunday, was beaten 6-2 6-0 by Russian Mikhail Youzhny in Basel and so suffered his ninth first-round exit in 13 tournaments since the French Open. Last week he withdrew from the Stockholm Open citing fatigue after admitting to only giving ‘about 85%’ in his previous outing at the Shanghai Rolex Masters.

Cahill, the former coach of world no.1s Lleyton Hewitt and Andre Agassi, is now one of ESPN’s leading tennis commentators and also works in the adidas Development Program and therefore has no contact with Nike contracted Tomic.

But as a fellow Aussie and somebody who cares about his nation’s tennis future, he doesn’t like to hear the criticism widely leveled at Tomic after his lamentable second half of 2012 and has urged the player to call an immediate end to his flagging season.

“Someone needs to put Bernie Tomic on the flying kangaroo. Year was done weeks ago. Charge up the batteries, get faster & stronger for 2013,” Cahill tweeted.

Although Cahill is based in Las Vegas , he maintains close links with Tennis Australia and has a regular dialogue with Davis Cup captain Patrick Rafter, Head of Professional Tennis Todd Woodbridge and seasoned coach Tony Roche.

Cahill also said on Twitter: “For what it’s worth, I think Roger Rasheed would be a good coaching fit for Bernard Tomic. Plenty of support in Rafter, Roche, Todd.W & co.”

Rasheed, also a one-time coach of Hewitt and Frenchman Gael Monfils, believes Tomic needs to have a serious talk with his father and coach John.

“Ok, time for Bernard Tomic to sit down with his father & work out what he [Bernie] wants from the sport – A long term plan & Enjoyment needed,” Rasheed tweeted from Paris.
