Round Robin – Red Group: (3) Serena Williams def. (5) Angelique Kerber 6-4 6-1

Probably the only question about this match was whether Serena Williams would care enough to give it her all. It looks as if she did. This doesn’t quite clinch her year-end #3 ranking, but it’s very close.

Round Robin – White Group: (2) Maria Sharapova def. (7) Sara Errani 6-3 6-2

It was, frankly, a pretty dull day. Maria Sharapova keeps alive her faint hopes of rising to #1, but it’s extremely unlikely in practice.

Round Robin – White Group: (4) Agnieszka Radwanska def. (6) Petra Kvitova 6-3 6-2

This was the one match that seemed as if it might be interesting — but it wasn’t. Petra Kvitova is clearly still in her not-all-there mode. This means that she must win her next two matches if she is to pass Angelique Kerber and end the year in the Top Five.
