It’s the contract-signing season for Roger Federer as the sports icon heads home for his annual appearance at the ATP Swiss Indoors in Basel, city of his birth. And wise sponsors know there is no better time to get one of the world’s elite sporting brands to sign on the dotted line than in the run-up to his home event.

That’s exactly how the script has played out for international insurer Nationale Suisse , which announced that the world No. 1 has re-upped for another four-year endorsement contract – terms, of course, undisclosed. The new deal will make it a decade-long sweep for the commercial pairing after their first six-year fling in the marketplace.

“We are proud to have been able to extend our successful partnership with Roger Federer for a further four years,” said company CEO Hans Künzle, adding that Federer, also a major philanthropist, embodies the corporate values of the firm with his “personal, successful and caring” attributes.

Federer added in a statement: “Nationale Suisse has been a loyal partner and the collaboration with them has been amazing. They were one of the first companies that believed in me and I am excited to continue to work with them and be part of their family for the years to come.”

The partnership, one of many in the elite Federer endorsement folio, began in 2007 and has encompassed TV, print and digital advertising campaigns.

The player also has his larger-than-life image plastered on a Swiss locomotive sponsored by Nationale Suisse, which has been transporting passengers on the regular rail network for a year. For every kilometre traveled, Nationale Suisse makes a contribution to the Roger Federer Foundation which focuses most of its efforts on educational projects for children in Africa.
