Moscow

Singles – Second Round: (Q) E Roger-Vasselin def. (1) A Dolgopolov 6-3 5-7 7-6(8-6)

Edouard Roger-Vasselin saved four match points in the course of this match — and cost Alexandr Dolgopolov his chance to return to the Top Twenty.

Singles – Second Round: (2) A Seppi def. I Sijsling 7-5 6-2

The points don’t count yet for Andreas Seppi. They will with his next match, but he needs a final to climb.

Singles – Second Round: (4) T Bellucci def. F Cipolla 6-4 6-1

There is no question now; Thomaz Bellucci will be returning to the Top Forty.

Singles – Second Round: J Janowicz def. (7) C Berlocq 6-3 6-4

Jerzy Janowicz is establishing an interesting pattern: If he wins one ATP match, he generally wins the next one also.

Singles – Second Round: I Karlovic def. A Bogomolov Jr. 7-6(13-11) 6-4

Ivo Karlovic is still far below the Top Hundred; our rough cut shows him around #120. But he is finally moving in the right direction — slowly.

Doubles – Quarterfinal: (WC) Donskoy/Kunitsyn def. Bautista-Agut/Sijsling 6-3 3-6 10-6 (Match TB)

Stockholm

Singles – Second Round: (1) J Tsonga def. G Soeda 6-2 7-6(8-6)

Once again Go Soeda falls short of the Top Fifty. For Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, this is piffle — he is holding three 250 point titles; he doesn’t need more!

Singles – Second Round: (2) T Berdych def. J Zopp 6-1 6-4

No points for Tomas Berdych yet, either — he needs a final. Which still means he has a better chance of adding points than Tsonga.

Singles – Second Round: S Stakhovsky def. (5) F Lopez 7-6(7-5) 7-5

Feliciano Lopez remains stuck below #30 — we show him at #34 in safe points.

Singles – Second Round: (7) M Baghdatis def. A Falla 6-0 3-0 retired (Left Foot)

We show Marcos Baghdatis still at #33 — but needing only two more points to start climbing. A semifinal could take him to #31. In any case, his chances of an Australian Open seed are starting to look pretty decent.

Doubles – First Round: (1) Lindstedt/Zimonjic def. (Alt) Rosenholm/Sekulic 6-3 6-0

Doubles – First Round: Baghdatis/Nieminen def. Kamke/Marx 6-3 6-2

Doubles – Quarterfinal: (3) Melo/Soares def. Fleming/Hutchins 7-5 6-3

Doubles – Quarterfinal: Anderson/Erlich def. (WC) B Baker/Siljestrom 6-2 6-3

Vienna

Singles – Second Round: (2) J Tipsarevic def. (WC) E Gulbis 6-3 6-4

Janko Tipsarevic lost in the doubles, so now he gets to concentrate on singles where he belongs — but he needs to defend his title here to make any real difference in race or rankings.

Singles – Second Round: (3) T Haas def. J Levine 6-4 6-2

Alexandr Dolgopolov’s loss at Moscow means that Tommy Haas’s Top Twenty spot is guaranteed, but he needs a title to climb.

Singles – Second Round: M Matosevic def. (WC) D Thiem 6-3 7-6(7-5)

Marinko Matosevic, to our surprise, is now right on the brink of the Top Fifty.

Singles – Second Round: P Lorenzi def. (Q) V Pospisil 6-4 6-4

The loss means that Vacek Pospisil won’t be making the Top Hundred at this time.

Singles – Second Round: (Q) G Zemlja def. M Ebden 7-5 6-4

Even though Grega Zemlja is a qualifier here, this isn’t even close to an upset; Zemlja came in at #70, Matthew Ebden at #120.

Singles – Second Round: A Bedene def. D Young 7-6(7-4) 6-7(2-7) 6-3

Donald Young remains stuck in the #175 range. Australian Open qualifying, here we come.

Doubles – Quarterfinal: (1) Melzer/Peya def. Tipsarevic/Waske 6-7(4-7) 6-4 10-8 (Match TB)

Doubles – Quarterfinal: Begemann/Emmrich def. Bedene/Zemlja 6-4 6-3

No Key Biscayne, No Problem; New Site, Same Great Miami Open Tennis Event

It was the end of an era at Crandon Park for the Miami Open last year. From the Lipton, to the Nasdaq 100, to the Sony Ericsson, to the Sony, to the Miami Open presented by Itau, Key Biscayne saw it all.
