Tennis greats Ivan Lendl, John McEnroe, Bjorn Borg, Boris Becker and Chris Evert are to reunite for one spectacular evening of tennis entertainment at the star-studded Winter Whites Gala on behalf of Centrepoint at the Royal Albert Hall in London on Saturday night, December 8.
During the evening, Goran Ivanisevic and Tim Henman will reprise their 2001 Wimbledon semifinal in singles action, McEnroe will also compete, and Lendl, Borg, Becker and Evert will make special guest appearances to lend their support. McEnroe lifted the Wimbledon trophy three times, Lendl spent 270 weeks at the top of the world rankings and Borg won Wimbledon five times between 1976 and 1980. Becker, at 17 was the youngest man ever to win the title at the All England Club, and former World No.1 Evert lifted 18 Grand Slam titles.
The gala will see the Royal Albert Hall transformed into an enchanted Winter Wonderland, featuring some of the biggest names in sport and entertainment and in the presence of Special Guests of Honor. It will all take place during the Statoil Masters Tennis on behalf of Centrepoint, HRH The Duke of Cambridge’s patron charity, which helps homeless young people.
VIP ticket-holders to the gala evening will mix with film stars, celebrities and some of the greatest tennis champions of all-time on the white carpet and at a champagne reception, before enjoying an exclusive private dinner in the Gallery, decorated as a magical winter crystal palace. VIP guests will then take their seats in their own private hospitality box to watch a brilliant show featuring a singles tournament match followed by exhibition play including celebrities, film and tennis Icons, and legendary players, followed by the presentation of the Centrepoint Premier Award for Contribution to the Lives of Youth Across the World.
Proceeds from the event will be donated to Centrepoint to further its work in supporting homeless 16-25 year-olds in the UK . Centrepoint is supported by HRH The Duke of Cambridge, the charity’s patron. Founded in 1969, Centrepoint has helped more than 75,000 homeless young people and is dedicated to ending youth homelessness.
