Lleyton Hewitt has left it late to make his veteran’s debut at next January’s Brisbane event as Australian players pick their preparation spots prior to the 2013 Australian Open.

The 31-year-old will compete in Brisbane four years and five editions after the event replaced a tournament in his native Adelaide . While Hewitt is on the east coast, Aussie Bernard Tomic will be playing on the west coast at the revamped Hopman Cup, teaming with Casey Dellacqua for the host nation at the eight-team international mixed event.

Samantha Stosur, the 2011 US Open winner, will begin her Open preparation in Brisbane also along with Hewitt before the start of the major on January 14.

Though Hewitt has played Davis Cup in Brisbane , the Queensland capital, he has always favored the Hopman Cup in the past. Also playing in Brisbane is US Open winner Andy Murray, with Maria Sharapova and Serena Williams heading the women’s field at the joint event.
